  15.           FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS SOFTWAREVAULT CD-ROM

  18.         1. There are a few ways you can run SoftwareVAULT. You can run it
  19.            from either the CD-ROM directly or from your hard drive,
  20.            depending on your preferences.  Read below to learn your options.
  21.  
  22.         2. The SoftwareVAULT Librarian is available in both a DOS
  23.            version (SVL.EXE) and a Windows version (SVLWIN.EXE).
  24.            Instructions on how to use these are included below.
  25.  
  26.         3. BBS sysops can use the enclosed ROMDOOR program which has
  27.            been customized for SoftwareVAULT to install and use
  28.            this CD-ROM on their BBS.
  29.  
  30.         4. This product is a collection of "shareware" programs and
  31.            resources.  Please contact the respective authors of each
  32.            program to register your copy and to obtain specific technical
  33.            support for any program.
  34.  
  35.         5. American Databankers will offer technical support for the
  36.            SoftwareVAULT Librarian program, but is not able to offer
  37.            help with the individual shareware programs included on this
  38.            disc.
  39.  
  40.         Ask your local software dealer for more information about

  48.                   USING YOUR SOFTWAREVAULT COLLECTION
  49. ______________________________________________________________________

  52. Welcome to SoftwareVAULT, a CD-ROM packed with thousands of
  53. programs and resources to meet your every need. To guide you through
  54. this enormous collection, this disc comes equipped with a program titled
  55. "Librarian". Librarian is a program that will...
  56.  
  57. 1) Search the disc by category or subject matter for programs and
  58. resources that interest you.
  59.  
  60. 2) Install any file from the SoftwareVAULT disc to your hard drive. (This
  61. will allow you to run the file on your PC)
  62.  
  63. 3) Print out a directory of the files on the disc. (This feature is 
  64. available only with the DOS version of the Librarian.)
  65.  
  66. 4) Place the files directory on a BBS. (Only with the DOS version)
  67.  
  68.  
  69. When you run the Librarian several headings will appear at the top of your
  70. screen. Each of these headings allows you to perform a different function.
  71.  
  72. Here's what each heading allows you to do...
  73.  
  74.  
  75. FILE: 
  76. Under the FILE heading you can either CHANGE CD ROM or EXIT. Selecting 
  77. CHANGE CD ROM will allow you to use the Librarian to search other 
  78. SoftwareVAULT Collections you own besides the one that you're currently 
  79. using. If you own other SoftwareVAULT collections, you can use this 
  80. latest version of the Librarian with them. If you'd like to 
  81. order the other SoftwareVAULT Collections, call American Databankers at 
  82. 1-800-775-4232 for a dealer near you. Selecting EXIT will allow you to
  83. leave the SoftwareVAULT Librarian and return to either DOS or Windows.

  87. CONTENTS: 
  88. Under the CONTENTS heading you can view the list of files
  89. included on the collection and copy the files that interest you to your 
  90. hard drive for use. To view the files list for a specific category select
  91. EXAMINE/TRANSFER FILES. After you choose a category to explore,
  92. you can select files to view or copy. (The DOS version of Librarian will
  93. allow you to copy more than one file at a time.) Copying a file to your 
  94. hard drive will allow you to run it on your PC. Also under the CONTENTS
  95. heading, you'll find some STATISTICS about the size of the collection and
  96. its various categories, along with a HOT HITS LIST of the greatest, most
  97. recent files on this collection. While viewing the hot hits list on the DOS
  98. version, you have the option to transfer a HOT HIT to your PC's hard
  99. drive for use.

  103. SEARCH: 
  104. You can search your SoftwareVAULT disc for specific topics
  105. that interest you. These searches can be performed either by FILENAME
  106. or by TEXT. To search by file name, select FILENAME and type in the file
  107. name of the application you want to find. Selecting TEXT will allow you to
  108. do a keyword search by subject matter and to find files related to a
  109. particular topic that interests you.

  114. Selecting HELP will provide you will a series of info files that
  115. explain what SoftwareVAULT is all about.

  126. The rich contents of this SoftwareVAULT CD-ROM are accessed by running
  127. the program called the SoftwareVAULT Librarian, which is available on the 
  128. CD-ROM in both a DOS version (SVL) and a Windows version (SVLWIN).  Though
  129. you can easily run the Librarian directly from the CD-ROM, you may prefer
  130. to run it from your hard drive.  Running the Librarian from your hard drive
  131. may result in better overall performance and doing so allows you to save
  132. user-specific configuration data for use in subsequent sessions.

  134. Important notes regarding the SoftwareVAULT Librarian
  135. -----------------------------------------------------
  136.     You will need at least 8.5 MB of free disk space to install the
  137.     SoftwareVAULT Librarian and its data files to your hard disk.
  138.  
  139.     The DOS version of the Librarian includes certain additional
  140.     features not included in this version of the Windows Librarian.
  141.     Feel free to call us regarding future upgrades to the
  142.     Windows Librarian.

  144.     There is a multimedia graphics and sound demo of the SoftwareVAULT
  145.     included on the root directory of the CD-ROM.  Just type DEMO to
  146.     watch it run.

  149. INSTRUCTIONS ON RUNNING SOFTWAREVAULT

  157. How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in DOS:

  159. 1.  Log on to the CD-ROM using your CD-ROM's drive letter.
  160.     e.g., from the DOS prompt type E: followed by the <ENTER> key.

  162. 2.  From the DOS prompt, type SVL <ENTER>.

  165. How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from your hard drive in DOS:

  167. 1.  Log on to the CD-ROM as directed above.

  169. 2.  From the DOS prompt, type INSTALL <ENTER>.

  171. 3.  Follow the instructions given by the INSTALL program.

  173. 4.  Once the SoftwareVAULT Librarian files have been installed on
  174.     your hard drive, you can run it by logging to the specified
  175.     hard drive directory and typing SVL <ENTER>.

  178. How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in Windows:

  180. 1.  Run Windows as instructed in the Windows User's Guide.

  182. 2.  From the Program Manager, select the Run... option in the File menu.

  184. 3.  Using the Browse function, select the CD-ROM drive and the program
  185.     on the CD-ROM titled SVLWIN.EXE in the SVL subdirectory.

  187. 4.  To make SVLWIN more readily useable from Windows, select New from the
  188.     File menu, and create a New Program Item for SVLWIN. (Refer to your
  189.     Windows User's Guide for details on how to perform this operation.)
